Need help with Moku? We've got you.Frequently asked questions
What file formats does Moku support?
Moku currently supports EPUB files. More formats may be added in future updates.
How do I import books?
Tap the "+" button in your library, then choose a file from your device. You can also import books from a URL. On iOS, you can open EPUB files directly from the Files app or Safari.
Do I need an account to use Moku?
No. Moku works entirely offline with no account required. You only need an account if you choose to enable sync.
How does sync work?
Moku syncs via PocketBase — an open-source backend you can self-host. Enter your server URL in Settings → Sync, create an account, and your books, reading progress, and shelves will sync across all your devices.
Can I host my own sync server?
Yes! That's the whole idea. Download PocketBase, run it on any machine or VPS, and point Moku to it. Full instructions are on the GitHub repo.
My book isn't displaying correctly. What should I do?
Some EPUBs have non-standard formatting. Try adjusting font and theme settings in the reader. If the issue persists, open an issue with the book details and we'll look into it.
How do I reset the app / clear onboarding?
On iOS, delete and reinstall the app. On macOS, remove the app's data from ~/Library/Containers/ and relaunch.
Is Moku free?
Yes. Moku is free and open source, licensed under the MIT license.
